In a recent episode of Eden Kendall’s podcast “Uncluttered and Unfiltered” , she and co-host Christine Stone discussed the challenges of wearing uncomfortable shoes, particularly high heels, and their impact on foot health. After a painful experience at a recent event, Christine decided to clear out her closet of uncomfortable shoes. Podiatrist Dr. Dawn Miles joined the conversation to offer insights into choosing healthier footwear. She highlighted that pointy-toed, stiletto heels are the worst for foot health, as they compress the forefoot and can exacerbate conditions like bunions. Dr. Miles explained that shoes with a larger surface area, like block heels, distribute pressure more evenly and are better for foot health.
She also touched on how aging and hormonal changes, such as decreased estrogen levels, affect women’s foot health, making them more prone to soft tissue injuries.
