A tropical wave (Invest AL98) is making its way toward the Caribbean, bringing along gusty winds and plenty of rainfall.
The system, currently located a few hundred miles east of the Windward Islands, is producing an impressive display of showers and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions are expected to limit development over the next few days. The system is currently moving westward at 20 to 25 mph, and the Windward Islands should be on alert for heavy rainfall and gusty winds starting Sunday through Monday morning.
But here’s where things get interesting: by mid to late week, conditions might become more favorable for further development. As the system settles into a more leisurely pace over the central Caribbean Sea, conditions could become more conducive for it to organize into a tropical depression.
The National Hurricane Center’s latest forecast has a 10-60% chance of development over the next 7 days.
Residents in the Caribbean region should keep an eye on this developing weather story, as conditions can change rapidly in the tropics.
