Nearly perfect fall weather across Northeast Florida, but beware of high rip current danger

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – I have to admit, this is what we call “chamber of commerce weather.” The skies are sunny, the temperatures are absolutely perfect, and I can see everyone smiling! Neighborhoods all around Jacksonville are buzzing with happy folks putting up Florida-sized inflatables and just soaking in the good vibes.

Right now along the coast, we’re waking up to temperatures in the 60s and 70s, dipping into the 50s a bit further inland—real fall feels without losing that Southern charm. As the day heats up, you can expect highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, and it looks like this warm stretch is going to stick around at least through Saturday.

By lunchtime, it’ll be right around 80 degrees, and that’s my idea of perfect weather for a patio lunch or a stroll outside. Everyone, including your four-legged pals, is loving this—just ask my dog Kevin, who took his sweet time coming back inside this morning!

Rip current risk stays high

While the weather is pretty much a dream, there is one concern you need to take seriously if your plans take you to the coastline. The rip current risk remains high for all area beaches. The surf is up to 3 to 5 feet, and both the air and water temperatures are sitting in that comfy 75 to 78 degree range.

The UV index is also high, so don’t forget your sunscreen. Please be extra careful if you’re getting in the water! This is a great time to enjoy the sun from the sand, but make sure you’re staying safe.

Weekend outlook and rain chances

Looking ahead, our Exact Track 4D radar continues to show dry air dominating the forecast. Most of the week is expected to stay sunny and warm, with a chance for a few isolated showers late Sunday into Monday as a new system moves in. I’m not expecting heavy rain—just a slight uptick in moisture.

There’s also Tropical Storm Lorenzo out in the Atlantic, but it’s not expected to impact Jacksonville or Northeast Florida in any way. The tropics are staying quiet for us for now.

With picture-perfect weather like this, I’d love to see how you’re making the most of these gorgeous fall days! Snap a photo and share your Jacksonville sunshine at SnapJAX.
