JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you were hoping for a sunny stretch in Jacksonville, I get your frustration.
Right now, temperatures are starting out in the low to upper 70s. We’re tracking scattered showers and storms popping up all across the area, especially as we head toward the afternoon. It’s a soggy setup all day, so I’d keep an umbrella handy if you go out.
I’ve been watching the Exact Track 4D radar, and it’s clear we’ll see this wet pattern hold through tonight and into tomorrow as well.
If tidal flooding has been an issue for you lately, you’re not alone. I’ve seen it on our cameras at Doctors Lake Marina, and it’s not going away just yet. Tidal flooding is set to continue into the next couple of days.
Right now, winds have been pretty light, but they’re expected to ramp up quickly through the morning. Gusts could reach up to 25 to 30 miles per hour, especially near the coast and up into Georgia, with wind chills even stronger in the heart of thunderstorms. It’s definitely something worth keeping in mind as you plan your day.
Weekend rain: What you should expect
This weekend, we’re still expecting some rain, but the chances should start tapering off by Sunday as high pressure builds in. Keep your options open for outdoor plans—have a plan B in case showers linger longer than expected.
Right now, the forecast is for 2 to 2.5 inches of rain from Palm Coast to St. Augustine by Sunday night, about 1.25 inches in Jacksonville, and lighter amounts farther north. You’ll also want to watch the beaches: rip current risk is high, so use extra caution if you’re thinking of hitting the water.
By next week, we should finally see a return to sunshine and temperatures rebounding into the mid-80s. Until then, let Mother Nature do the watering—you can save the gardening for next week!
