LIVE RADAR: Coastal Flooding and beach hazards make for a wet weekend ahead

Be sure to have your indoor plans in place

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A coastal flood warning is making waves along Northeast Florida’s St. Johns River Basin and Intracoastal Waterway, with moderate tidal flooding expected through the weekend. Meanwhile, our neighbors in Southeast Georgia and Nassau County are under a coastal flood advisory for minor flooding.

Today’s Forecast

Breezy onshore winds are setting the tone along the coast this morning, with that breeze planning to venture inland by early afternoon. While rounds of rain continue to roll in from the Atlantic and coastal areas, folks west of U.S. Highway 301 might stay relatively dry.

Saturday futurecast
Saturday gusts

Despite the cloudy canopy overhead, temperatures will be below seasonal east of U.S. 301:

  • Inland areas (west of U.S.-301): Mid 80s
  • Coastal and shower-prone areas: Lower 80s

If you’re heading out, pack a poncho and/or an umbrella – Mother Nature’s keeping us guessing this weekend!

Beach and Boating Conditions

If you’re planning any maritime adventures, you’ll want to think twice. The coast is facing a triple threat of dangerous conditions:

  • High risk of rip currents
  • High surf
  • Small craft advisory in effect

More rain on the horizon

Sunday and Monday are shaping up to be particularly wet, with waves of heavy downpours rolling in and some isolated coastal thunderstorms are expected during the afternoon. Keep an eye out for flooding, especially in those coastal and low-lying areas that tend to collect water. Turn around, don’t drown.

The full moon on Monday will also contribute to higher tides throughout the day.
