Local nor’easter conditions will build through the weekend. High pressure to our north and the weak area of low pressure developing near the Bahamas will continue gusty winds along the coast with stronger gusts.
The strong onshore wind will push ocean water into the coast and into the St Johns River, resulting in rising tidal levels. Coastal Flood Warnings as Moderate Tidal Flood impacts are likely tonight and through the weekend, especially with the approaching Full Moon on Monday.
Rounds of showers with embedded thunderstorms will continue through the weekend with convection developing from east to west across the forecast area, with conditions becoming more widespread on Sunday. Gusty easterly winds with sustained speeds rising to be about 15-25 mph and gusts of about 35 mph are expected.
There is a potential for excessive rainfall capable of producing local flooding conditions as a moist and unstable flow passes over the area.
Tonight: Windy with an increasing chance of showers and embedded thunderstorms through late tonight, early Friday.
Saturday: Rain chances will be highest from around noon through early evening. Rain chances will start around 30-40 percent and then build to around 50 - 60 percent through the evening. Morning lows in the 60s to low 70s. Afternoon highs in the 80s. Wind NE 15 - 20 with stronger gusts. Showers possible overnight.
Sunday: The pattern continues as the Tropical low lifts north, toward the Gulf through Monday. Rounds of locally heavy rain with thunderstorms will be possible through Monday.
Coastal Flood Warning will be in effect through Monday morning. For the Coastal Flood Warning, significant coastal flooding is expected. The strong onshore winds will trap the tides within the St. Johns River basin and with the approach of the Full Moon, widespread moderate flooding will occur with each high tide cycle. Water levels may reach moderate flood levels, or around 2 to 2.5 feet above Mean Higher High Water or above normally dry ground, along the Atlantic Coast and within the Intracoastal Waterway and the St. Johns River basin.
