Wet and windy weekend on the way as we eye 2 disturbances in the tropics

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’re already prepping for the weekend, let’s get right to it — rain is expected to be a big part of our forecast.

I know weekends are precious, but it’s all in how you make it.

A “wet weekend” is likely, so you’ll want to keep that umbrella handy and maybe have a backup indoor plan just in case.

Right now, we’re starting the day with mainly overcast skies and quickly increasing winds. Winds along the coast are already sustained in the 20s, with gusts in the 30s.

If you’re heading out, expect those gusty conditions to move inland and stick around through early afternoon and even into the evening.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you feel those winds the moment you step outside — it’s making an impact this morning.

Scattered rain is moving into our area. Expect it to become more widespread and pick up in intensity later this afternoon, though it will remain spotty across neighborhoods. We’ll keep you posted on Exact Track 4D as those showers develop.

Watching tropical disturbances

I’m also tracking a couple of tropical disturbances that might impact our weather, even if they haven’t fully developed yet.

The main feature over Florida is still “disorganized,” but it’s enough to trigger scattered showers, storms, and potentially rough surf or rip currents along our beaches heading into the weekend.

My forecast calls for a low-pressure system to likely form and slowly drift into the Gulf. We’ll watch to see if conditions become more favorable for development — for now, there’s nothing organized to track.

There’s also another disturbance way off the coast of Africa. I’d put its chances of organizing at low for now, but The Weather Authority and I are monitoring both areas closely in case things change.

No direct threats yet, but if there’s any interaction between these systems, you’ll hear it first from me.

Current conditions across Northeast Florida

If you’re stepping out this morning, you’ll notice mild temperatures in the 70s across Florida, with some upper 60s if you’re heading north into Georgia — Lake City is waking up to 68 degrees.

The story everyone’s talking about, though, is the wind. Several of you — shout out if you’re driving and felt your car moving — know what I mean!

Those breezy conditions are expected to last through lunchtime, with forecast wind gusts in the upper 20s to 30s for pretty much everyone by the afternoon.
