JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – I’m Katie Garner, your News4JAX meteorologist, and we’re keeping a close eye on the Tropics this week. Hurricane Gabrielle is spinning in the Atlantic, but right now there’s no expected impact for us here in Jacksonville.
We’ve also got Tropical Storm Humberto, and it’s forecast to become a hurricane by the weekend. Exact Track 4D shows the projected path curving north, keeping most of the action well out in the Atlantic. Right now, Bermuda should be paying close attention, as Humberto’s track is similar to Gabrielle’s.
I’m watching a third disturbance, too—it’s a cluster of disorganized showers and storms near the Bahamas, with an 80 percent chance of developing in the next seven days. Some early model runs suggest it could turn out to the Atlantic, but a few show a path into Florida. Most important to know: once this system reaches the Bahamas, we’ll have much more clarity on what to expect.
We also have to keep in mind that with these systems out there, it’s possible for them to interact or even merge, which could bring changes to the forecast. Right now, nothing is set in stone, and you can count on The Weather Authority to follow every update.
Possible impacts for Jacksonville area
So, what could all this mean for Jacksonville? Even if storms miss us directly, there’s an increased risk of rip currents and swells along our beaches. That’s something beach-goers need to keep in mind as the week goes on.
As always during hurricane season, stay weather aware and check for alerts. We’re in a waiting game with this developing system, but I’ll make sure you have the latest forecast details right here on News4JAX.com.
Hot and humid conditions continue
We started the morning at 74 degrees downtown, with 97 percent humidity and a light south-southwest wind. Right now, it feels like 70 degrees, but don’t get too comfortable—our temperatures will push into the 90s this afternoon with “feels like” values climbing near 100 degrees. It’s definitely going to be a hot one, and I recommend finding ways to stay cool.
