As snow continued to fall Wednesday morning across parts of Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida, the National Weather Service Jacksonville asked residents for help.
They need to know how much snow fell overnight and Wednesday morning as a rare winter storm slammed into the area.
To get an accurate picture, NWS Jacksonville needs snowfall reports from residents.
They shared some helpful tips on how to measure the snow and get those reports in:
Use a ruler on a flat surface: Stick the ruler into the snow until you hit ground
Find a flat, unsheltered area away from buildings: Avoid snow drifts and use a snow board to make sure you have a flat surface
Ensure the ruler is perpendicular to the ground: At eye level, read the measurement
Measure before melting occurs: Take multiple measurements and average your readings
Send NWS Jacksonville a picture of the ruler measuring the snow to report your reading
