Paxon School for Advanced Studies was on lockdown Friday morning due to police activity in the neighborhood, according to Duval County Public Schools.

Nearly 70 students at Paxon School for Advanced Studies walked out of class Wednesday in protest of the Parental Rights in Education bill, which critics often call the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law Monday.

Christion Russ is a senior at Paxon School for Advanced Studies. He is the quarterback of the football team and was recently crowned as Mr. Homecoming. This summer Christion worked with the Mitch22 Foundation Inc. to raise over $1,500 to provide backpacks, school supplies, hand sanitizer stations, face masks and other items for students at a local elementary school. Christion has a 3.7 GPA.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. As Duval County students prepare to return to school on Thursday, theyll be greeted by many changes. But one thing that hasnt changed is that students who attend Paxon School for Advanced Studies and other Jacksonville high schools will still be able to leave campus for lunch. Thats good news for area restaurants, which are counting on the business that students will bring. We have a lot of businesses around so, a lot of workers, and there are a lot of schools around us and high schools, Bahai said. Lebarron Johnson is on the baseball team at Paxon School for Advanced Studies. Every year Lebarron participates in the Alzheimer's Association Walk. He served as a student advocate at last year's walk, raising awareness for Alzheimer's disease. In addition, he is a member of the Jacksonville Florida Kappa Alumni's Chapter Guide Right Program, also known as the Kappa League, which is a leadership development program for young men. Lebarron currently has a 4.0 GPA.
