One was behind businesses at a strip mall, a father and son on a youth football field and one just off Arlington Expressway. There is concern growth of Jacksonville University and businesses along University Boulevard is being overshadowed by a threat of violence. “From the state side, it’s obvious that we need more prevention and intervention dollars coming from the state of Florida,” said Rep. Tracie Davis, D-Jacksonville. This is personal for us, but tragedies like this are happening throughout the state of Florida every day.

Officers were called about 4:30 p.m. to gunfire on McCormick Road near Dunes Way Drive, by Ed Austin Regional Park. Steve Rudlaff, with the Sheriff's Office, said witnesses told police that two masked men, at least one of whom was armed, ran off after the shooting. The westbound lanes of McCormick Road were shut down about 5 p.m. for a couple of hours.
