Backyard Beekeepers called “Bee The Light” posted the gentle process of removing and relocating the insects. The beekeepers said there were less than 300 bees in the hive so the chances of them surviving on their own were slim. These bees will be mixed in with other hives and closely monitored to ensure their survival. Pollinators, most often honey bees, are responsible for one in every three bites of food we take, and increase our nation’s crop values each year by more than $15 billion.

The lion on the north side of the bridge on the bayfront is showing several cracks in its tail. There is a sign warning against climbing on the statues, but that hasn’t stopped the practice. The two lion statues, named “Firm” and “Faithful,” were installed on the bridge in 1927. They were put in storage while the bridge was rebuilt in 2010.

Officers with the St. Augustine Police Department said someone called around 2:23 a.m. after hearing a loud crash near the bridge. When officers arrived, they found two people had been thrown from a motorcycle on the east end of the bridge. The driver, according to police, was taken to Flagler Hospital where he later died. The passenger on the motorcycle was listed in stable condition at Flagler Hospital.

There will be limited parking throughout the downtown area, so visitors are encouraged to arrive early and use the Historic Downtown parking facility at 1 Cordova St., adjacent to the St. Augustine and St. Johns County Visitor Information Center. Hunt Elementary School (125 Magnolia Dr.) and• St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park (999 Anastasia Blvd.). The St. Augustine Police Department has a traffic plan to move vehicles safely and as quickly as possible out of the downtown area following the show. Fireworks over the Matanzas is produced by the city of St. Augustine with support funding from the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council.
