JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - All eastbound lanes on Arlington Expressway were shut down early Sunday morning after two officer-involved crashes near the Southside Connector. According to Jacksonville Sheriff's Officers, a car had a tire blow out on the eastbound lanes of the expressway earlier in the morning about 4 a.m. and an officer responded. While waiting with the disabled vehicle for a tow truck, another vehicle crashed into the police cruiser. Later, another JSO officer was responding to the first crash on the westbound lanes when that cruiser got into a crash with another car. Officers conducted DUI tests, but said everyone involved in both crashes OK at this time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV Thursday evening in Arlington, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Investigators were called to the scene on Arlington Road just north of the Arlington Expressway at about 8:30 p.m. The Sheriff's Office said the pedestrian, who appeared to be crossing the street, died at the scene. An officer was unable to confirm the age or the identity of the victim. There were several witnesses at the scene that were speaking to investigators.

The Mathews Bridge reopened Tuesday afternoon just before 3 p.m. after it had been closed down in both directions while police investigated a suspicious item. The package was found to be "nothing of concern," Jacksonville police said. Traffic into and out of Downtown was briefly rerouted over the Hart Bridge.
