Courtney Friedman joined KSAT 12 News in August 2014 and now anchors the News at Noon weekdays, and reports important community stories.
Her reporting often takes on issues including domestic violence, trafficking, foster care, homelessness and suicide awareness. She has an ongoing series called Loving in Fear, covering the rampant domestic violence problem in Bexar County. She is able to give survivors a voice, highlight resources, and hold government and nonprofit agencies accountable for necessary changes.
Courtney frequently emcees annual fundraising events for organizations, including Christy’s Hope, which raises money for the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter, foster care organization SJRC, and the Texas Burn Survivor’s Society that offers resources for burn survivors. In 2021, Courtney was honored with the Media Award of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers Alamo Area Branch for her work covering domestic violence.
She has also covered major stories, including Hurricane Harvey, the shootings in Sutherland Springs, Santa Fe, and Fort Hood, and anchoring during coverage of Robb Elementary. She’s also interviewed many presidential candidates at national conventions.
She received a Houston Press Club award for her reporting on a tornado that tore through Floresville in 2015 and a Dallas Press Club award for a story on long-lost memorabilia returned to a late veteran’s family.
Courtney began her career at KYTX CBS 19 in Tyler in 2010, where she became a reporter and anchor. She covered the record-setting 2011 wildfires that burned thousands of acres across East Texas. She was recognized for her reporting on veterans as they battled PTSD and homelessness.
She is a San Diego, California, native who left home to get a Broadcast Journalism degree at UT Austin. She’s been in Texas ever since, and considers herself an honorary Texan.
When she's not working, she's spending time with her husband, daughter, and being a self-proclaimed “crazy cat mom.” She loves traveling, exploring fun new places to eat, doing yoga, listening to good live music, and cheering on her Longhorns.
