We started the day finding out Trevor Lawrence was sick, but wound still play. I don’t know if this was Jordan Flu game levels, but he got it done in the clutch without his top guys. No Travis Hunter. No Brian Thomas Jr. No Dyami Brown. No problem. Just let Tim Jones and Austin Trammell step up to make some clutch plays. Just how everyone drew it up, right?

The biggest problem coming out of this game is going to be the injuries. The injury list was already pretty long, but now it is looking like a major problem. How fast can the team get healthy? Or will James Gladstone try and use the trade deadline to bring in some reinforcements? Those are the big questions that come to mind for me.

Far more good than bad from this team. Someone this week told me the Jags always lose games they are supposed to win, and that is historically accurate, but that hasn’t been this team. Think about it. The losses came to Cincinnati with Joe Burrow to start the day, the Seahawks and the Rams. None of those games did anyone go into thinking it was a no-brainer that the Jags were the better team and should just walk in and walk out with the win. On the other hand the expectation was a Dub against the Raiders. I mean, the Raiders just aren’t a good team. Was it a clean win? No. But was it a win? Yes. At he end of the day, that is all that matters.

This was a week where things could have gotten derailed. Travis Hunter gets hurt on Thursday, Trevor is sick on Sunday, They are riding a two-game losing streak, and then they look up at the scoreboard and are trailing at halftime to the Raiders. That is an emotional roller coaster for sure. Liam Coen kept it on the tracks and they got the win.

Does this start some momentum? Maybe, but it will all depend on how quickly guys can get healthy and what Lawrence shows up each week. Because that interception in the first quarter is sadly a big part of the Trevor experience. An awful decision in the red zone. Then he will make some unbelievable throws as well. Malcolm Jenkins once said about his defense, “we live by the blitz we die by the blitz.”

That is what comes to mind for me watching Lawrence. You live with the bad throws because you know there are some amazing ones that will come, too. Is that ideal? No, but that is the experience. Can Coen get him to make a few less of those bad throws without taking away his confidence to just let it rip? I’m not sure, but that is the task Coen was hired to figure out.
