Varsity 4 News4JAX Super 10 rankings
Rank, (previous), school, record last year, classification
1. (2) Raines (8-0, Class 3A)
Last week: beat Yulee, 58-6. This week: at Atlantic Coast (4-5), Thursday, 6:30 p.m.
Why they’re here: The Vikings have absolutely destroyed every team this season. Yes, the schedule has been well documented to be woefully light, but Raines has seldom even been challenged. The Vikings led a 7-1 Yulee 49-0 at halftime last week.
2. (1) St. Augustine (9-0, Class 4A)
Last week: beat Ridgeview, 68-6. This week: vs. (4) Mandarin (8-1), Thursday.
Why they’re here: The Yellow Jackets can wrap up their second unbeaten regular season in the past three years with a win this week, but the Mustangs will be a tough one. I slid St. Augustine down due to Raines’ dominance. The Yellow Jackets have played the area’s most challenging schedule, with wins over Bolles, Nease and Columbia.
3. (3) Bolles (8-1, Class 2A)
Last week: beat Wolfson, 56-6. This week: at (8) Columbia (8-1), 7:30 p.m.
Why they’re here: The Bulldogs are a good pick to reach the Class 2A state title game. They’ve got a nice test in Lake City this week.
4. (4) Mandarin (8-1, Class 6A)
Last week: beat (5) Oakleaf, 31-14. This week: at (1) St. Augustine (9-0), Thursday.
Why they’re here: The Mustangs used a rock solid defense to smother Oakleaf and wrap up a district title. Can they keep St. Augustine from a perfect regular season this week?
5. (6) Nease (7-2, Class 6A)
Last week: beat Tocoi Creek, 36-0. This week: vs. Beachside (6-2), Thursday.
Why they’re here: The Panthers are positioned well for the playoffs. They can wrap up an eight-win regular season this week. Their defense has been unbelievable this year.
6. (7) Bradford (8-1, Class 2A)
Last week: beat Santa Fe, 21-7. This week: Off, regular season complete.
Why they’re here: The Tornadoes wrapped up a district title last week and now get a couple weeks of rest before the state playoffs begin. They’re in a good position to earn a No. 1 seed in Region 2-2A.
7. (8) Columbia (8-1, Class 4A)
Last week: beat Clay, 21-0. This week: vs. (3) Bolles (8-1), 7:30 p.m.
Why they’re here: The Tigers are back in action in what should be a tune-up game before the regular season finale against Bolles.
8. (5) Oakleaf (7-2, Class 6A)
Last week: lost to (4) Mandarin, 31-14. This week: at Tocoi Creek (4-5).
Why they’re here: The Knights have laid an egg in big games against Bolles (32-point loss) and Mandarin (two pick-sixes, three turnovers). How do they clean that up for the playoffs?
9. (9) Ponte Vedra (7-2, Class 5A)
Last week: beat IMG Academy White, 46-7. This week: at Creekside (4-5).
Why they’re here: The Sharks are in the lead for the District 3-5A title and can wrap up an eight-win regular season this week.
10. (10) White (7-2, Class 4A)
Last week: beat Riverside, 64-45. This week: at Baldwin (7-2), Thursday, 6:30 p.m.
Why they’re here: The Commanders can’t seem to slow teams down but they’re very good at putting up big offensive numbers week after week. Excellent test in the finale before the playoffs.
