Varsity 4 News4JAX Super 10 rankings

Rank, (previous), school, record last year, classification

1. (1) St. Augustine (8-0, Class 4A)

Last week: beat Bartram Trail, 34-20. Next: at Ridgeview (2-6).

Why they’re here: The Yellow Jackets didn’t play the sharpest against the Bears, but they’re still headed towards a 10-0 regular season if they can beat Mandarin in Week 11.

2. (2) Raines (7-0, Class 3A)

Last week: beat Creekside, 51-3. Next: vs. Yulee (7-1), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Vikings laid the hammer to Creekside last week. They can wrap up a district championship this week against a Hornets team that just got drilled by Flagler Palm Coast.

3. (3) Bolles (7-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat Riverside, 45-14. Next: vs. Wolfson (3-5).

Why they’re here: The Bulldogs get a big test in Week 11 with a trip to Lake City to face Columbia. They should be a lock to reach the Class 2A state semifinals this year.

4. (4) Mandarin (7-1, Class 6A)

Last week: Off. This week: vs. (5) Oakleaf (7-1), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: After a week off, it’s the District 2-6A championship game against the Knights. Mandarin won this meeting last year, then lost the rematch in the playoffs.

5. (5) Oakleaf (7-1, Class 6A)

Last week: beat (10) White, 45-41. This week: at (4) Mandarin (7-1), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Knights showed the offense that I’ve expected from them all season. RB Fareed Coleman had five rushing TDs and Jack McKissock made the throw of the game with 14 seconds left, a beauty on the back line of the end zone that Trace Burney caught. Can they win the district title against Mandarin this week?

6. (6) Nease (6-2, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Atlantic Coast, 29-0. This week: vs. Tocoi Creek (4-4).

Why they’re here: It’s an extreme longshot, but the Panthers are still mathematically alive in the district race, but they need Bartram Trail to upset Buchholz to have any hope left. And they have to avoid an upset against the Toros.

7. (7) Bradford (8-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat Tallahassee Leon, 45-10. This week: vs. Santa Fe (6-2), 7:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Tornadoes can sew up a district championship this week with a win over Santa Fe. The more interesting jockeying comes in the region points standings and Bradford’s tight race with the Villages for the No. 1 seed.

8. (8) Columbia (7-1, Class 4A)

Last week: Off. This week: vs. Clay (2-6).

Why they’re here: The Tigers are back in action in what should be a tune-up game before the regular season finale against Bolles.

9. (9) Ponte Vedra (6-2, Class 5A)

Last week: beat Orange Park, 53-0. This week: vs. IMG Academy Junior National (5-3).

Why they’re here: Quite the turn of events for the Sharks. They’ve won four straight after a loss to Beachside, and had likely planned on not bringing home a district title. But Middleburg upset the Barracudas, and cracked open the door for Ponte Vedra to bring home the 3-5A crown.

10. (10) White (5-1, Class 4A)

Last week: lost to (5) Oakleaf, 44-41.This week: at Riverside (2-7), 6:30 p.m.

Why they’re here: The Commanders have lost a shootout to the best team on their schedule to date (52-49 to Merritt Island). Can they hang with the No. 5-ranked Knights in their most difficult game of the season?

Dropped out

Beachside (5-2, Class 5A), lost to Middleburg, 37-36.

Bishop Kenny (6-2, Class 3A); Fletcher (5-3, Class 6A); Middleburg (7-1, Class 5A); Yulee (7-1, Class 3A).
