JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Devin Lloyd’s fast start for the Jaguars has earned some big-time recognition.
Lloyd was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month on Thursday afternoon, an excellent — and rare — honor for the former first-round draft pick.

Lloyd is the first Jacksonville player to earn AFC Defensive Player of the Month honors since Mike Peterson in December 2005.
Lloyd is off to a ferocious start for the 3-1 Jaguars. He’s got 23 tackles and is tied for the league lead with three interceptions. He picked off Brock Purdy twice in a 26-21 win in Week 4 over San Francisco.
Lloyd also had a key fumble recovery in a Week 3 win over the Texans that all but took points off the board in a 17-10 win. He’s been perhaps the best defensive player on Jacksonville during the best defensive start in franchise history. Jacksonville leads the league in takeaways (13) and ranks fifth in the NFL in points per game allowed (18).
It’s been a radical shift from 2024 in Jacksonville. The Jaguars forced just nine turnovers in a dismal 4-13 season.
For Lloyd, the ascent couldn’t come at a better time. The Jaguars didn’t pick up his fifth-year option, so Lloyd is turning in a career season in the final year of his rookie contract.
