TaxSlayer Gator Bowl gets an earlier date for 81st game in December

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The TaxSlayer Gator Bowl has a new date.

The annual bowl game in Jacksonville will be played Dec. 27 at EverBank Stadium with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff time, the bowl announced on Thursday. The date matches the earliest playing of the game in the bowl’s 81-year existence.

It has been played four times on Dec. 27 (1958, 1969, 1976 and 1986).

The game will be televised nationally on ABC.

The Gator Bowl matches a team from the SEC against an opponent from the ACC or Notre Dame. The matchup will be announced on Dec. 7. In last season’s Gator Bowl, No. 16-ranked Ole Miss, led by first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart, walloped Duke, 52-20 on Jan. 2.

“The opportunity to play the 81st TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Saturday night in primetime is sure to provide an electric atmosphere for both student-athletes and fans alike,” TaxSlayer Gator Bowl Chairperson Sara Pomposo said in a statement. “On behalf of our entire green jacket membership, we look forward to hosting a representative from both the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference in Jacksonville for the holidays in our beautiful city.”
