The Gate River Run is the USA 15k Championship. What does that mean for elite runners?

Professional athletes compete for prize money and bragging rights

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The three-week countdown begins for the Gate River Run! News4JAX will be broadcasting the race live for another year.

Each Friday in February at 7 p.m., Alessandra Pontbriand and Julie Stackhouse will discuss different topics on News4JAX+ about preparing for the race.

The race is also the USA 15k Championship. For many, this race is a community event for locals to enjoy running or walking through different neighbors. For an elite few, they’re racing for prize money and bragging rights. In the second episode, Alessandra and Julie discuss what this race means for the elite runners and what prize money they’re racing for.

Julie also talks about her experience running the race as a five-time First Coast Cup winner.

They also describe the exciting atmosphere as you’re running around the course.

In the first episode of the series, Alessandra and Julie give you all the details on how to train, the best mindset to have, and tips for getting over the Green Monster a.k.a. the Hart Bridge.
