Taking the Move More Activity Challenge for heart health

The First Coast Heart Walk is happening Saturday, October 4 at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds, with the festival area opening at 7:30 a.m. and the walk beginning at 9 a.m. Registration is free at FirstCoastHeartWalk.org, and this year’s theme,“I Walk to Save Lives,” highlights the lifesaving power of CPR and the effort to build a Nation of Lifesavers. Leading up to the walk, participants can join More Activity Challenge starting September 4 by downloading the Heart Walk mobile app, logging their activity minutes, and competing on the leaderboard—with top movers and fundraisers recognized at the event. The Heart Walk also calls attention to the urgent need for bystander CPR: nearly 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside a hospital don’t survive, but immediate CPR can double or triple the chances of survival. Every step taken on October 4 supports research, awareness, and action so that more lives can be saved in our community.
