The Timucuan Parks Foundation will be hosting a cleanup event on Tuesday, September 2, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, located at 500 Wonderwood Drive. Participants should tell the gate attendant they are there for the Timucuan Parks Foundation cleanup event to receive free entrance into the park and will then be directed to the designated meet-up spot. The cleanup will focus on clearing litter from the shorelines and parking lots after the busy Labor Day weekend. Volunteers will be guided by site captains and should wear closed-toe shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty, as well as bring gloves (if they have them), a full reusable water bottle, a hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Additional equipment, trash bags, snacks, and water will be provided by TPF. All ages are welcome to participate; however, those ages 16 to 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteer work at the cleanup can also count toward community service hours. More information can be found at timucuanparks.org/volunteer.
