The Giving Closet Project, a nonprofit based in Northeast Florida, is celebrating nine years of service to students and families in need. Founded in 2016 by Jennifer Smith, a former public school teacher, the organization has grown from a grassroots idea into a regional support network serving over 18,000 students across Northeast and South Florida.
Over the past nine years, The Giving Closet Project has partnered with two major school districts and more than 75 social service agencies. Its programs provide essential items such as clothing, shoes, and hygiene products to help remove barriers to learning for students facing homelessness, poverty, trauma, and mental health challenges. The organization emphasizes not only meeting immediate needs but also promoting confidence, dignity, and long-term student success.
As the nonprofit marks its ninth anniversary, it will be hosting its 2nd Annual Rhythm & Roots Soirée on Saturday, October 11.
