From canning to chickens: Explore It All at the UF/IFAS Duval County Open House

UF/IFAS Extension Duval County is hosting its inaugural Open House & 4-H Kick-Off on Saturday, August 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1010 N. McDuff Avenue in Jacksonville. This family-friendly event is an opportunity for community members to meet local Extension experts and learn about the wide range of hands-on activities, workshops, and resources available for all ages. Highlights include a bounce house for kids, tasty treats at the 4-H food tent, and tours of the Duval County Canning Center, which has served residents for more than 80 years. Visitors can participate in presentations and exhibits on gardening, backyard poultry, soil testing, beekeeping, pesticide safety, money management, and starting a cottage food business. The Open House features interactive opportunities to discover 4-H youth development programs for children ages 5 to 18, as well as practical skills for families, homesteaders, and anyone eager to grow their knowledge about food, agriculture, and the environment. All are welcome to attend and connect with the people and programs that help enrich life across Duval County.
