Independence Day crafts for the kids

Eden and Rance tried some simple craft ideas that could be tailored toward any Independence Day celebration.

1. Tissue Paper Flowers with Pipe CleanersKids can create bright, cheerful flowers by layering several pieces of colorful tissue paper, folding them into an accordion shape, and then securing the center with a green pipe cleaner, which acts as the stem. After tying, gently separate and fluff each layer of tissue paper to form the petals, resulting in a beautiful, handmade flower that makes a perfect gift or decoration.

2. Stained Glass Mason Jar VaseTo make a faux stained glass vase, children cut tissue paper into small squares or shapes and use a paintbrush to coat a mason jar with Elmer’s glue or Mod Podge. They press the tissue paper pieces onto the sticky jar, overlapping colors for a mosaic effect. Once the jar is covered, another layer of glue is brushed on top to seal it. After drying, the jar glows with vibrant, stained glass-like colors and can be used as a vase or decorative container.

3. Fireworks Salt Painting on CanvasFor this craft, kids use glue to draw fireworks shapes on a black canvas or cardstock. While the glue is wet, they sprinkle salt over it, covering all the glue lines. After shaking off the excess salt and letting it dry, they use a paintbrush or pipette to drop food coloring or watery paint onto the salted glue. The color spreads magically through the salt, creating a dazzling fireworks effect that pops against the dark background
