Pawsing 4 Pets: Hoagie is searching for a furever home

Meet Hoagie, a lovable senior dog estimated to be around 9 years old. This sweet boy spent several months in an animal shelter before being rescued by the dedicated team at Swamp Haven. When he arrived, Hoagie was heartworm positive, suffering from pneumonia, and struggling to eat, which caused him to lose weight. Despite the shelter staff’s best efforts, Hoagie needed more specialized care to recover.

Thanks to the compassionate rescuers at Swamp Haven, Hoagie is now on the mend and thriving. He knows basic commands, enjoys playing with other dogs—especially puppies and small breeds—and loves his toys. While he generally plays well with others, Hoagie would do best in a cat-free forever home.

You can meet Hoagie and learn more about him at the St. Augustine Humane Society’s Hot Diggity Dog Day on April 26, 2025. This annual community event celebrates dogs and their owners, bringing everyone together for a day of fun. Attendees can enjoy face painting, clowns, a balloon artist, and free hot dogs. There’s also a chance to win a $200 gift certificate to Columbia Restaurant.

The event will feature an AKC fetch trial, dog training sessions, and dog first aid workshops. Food trucks will be on-site, making it a perfect outing for families and dog lovers alike. Admission is free, and everyone is invited to join the festivities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come out to support Hoagie and other adoptable pets while enjoying a day filled with joy and community spirit!
