JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local animal shelter volunteer is turning to the internet and creating the #904Challenge to get more eyes on their shelter animals.
Tessa Bullock, a volunteer with Animal Care and Protective Services in Jacksonville, launched the initiative on Sunday.
The goal is to create social media posts with the hashtag #904Challenge to highlight the different services and animals at ACPS to get more dogs and cats adopted out of the facility, which is over capacity.
Bullock says there are currently close to 400 dogs at the shelter, and they should only have around 300.
The idea of the #904Challenge is for volunteers who take dogs out for the day to post videos and photos of the animal on social media with the hashtag and tag ACPS. Hopefully, other people see the posts and want to come in to adopt or foster an animal.
“It’s just 904 things that people can do to benefit Animal Care and Protective Services, whether it be fostering, adopting, bringing donations in, doing a dog day out,” Bullock said. “Anything like that that benefits our city shelter. We’re going to count that toward the #904Challenge.”
Bullock said people have already started posting photos with the hashtag, and she and other volunteers are hopeful the challenge takes off and benefits the animals.
