JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A frightening crash occurred at the Cove at Atlantic Beach apartment complex when a car smashed into a home, coming inches from a little girl asleep in her bed.
Somer Raines, the girl’s mother, said, “I don’t know what would’ve done if it was something different but I’m thankful that my babies are here today.”
Four-year-old London Raines described the terrifying moment.
“It was very bad... I didn’t hear anything because I was screaming.”
Photos show debris scattered on London’s bed where she was napping. Her mother held her tightly hours after the crash.
Somer added, “I was so scared. I didn’t know what to think. I’ve never been in this situation before.”
Fortunately, everyone in the home was unharmed.
London was later seen playing with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers in a nearby park as crews assessed the damage.
“I’m happy God protected us and only we can just thank him for everybody still being here today because it could’ve been different. It really could’ve,” Somer said, expressing gratitude.
Crews boarded up the home and cleaned the debris while the family began to consider their next steps.
“We’re still trying to wrap our heads around what happened today and try and go from there,” Somer said.
London added, “I miss my house because I want to stay.”
Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers were on scene to assist the family.
