MIRAMAR, Fla. – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Thursday the arrests of more than 150 undocumented immigrants accused of sex crimes during a major operation across Florida.
During a news conference in Miramar, officials said the operation resulted in the arrests of more than 230 undocumented immigrants, including 150 with convictions for sexual assault of minors, rape, lewd and lascivious conduct, child exploitation, battery, and attempted homicide.
Kelly Walker, acting field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, talked about the success of the large-scale operation.
“This operation is a testament to the dedication, collaboration and unavering commitment of our law enforcement agency partners through ICE’s 287(g) program designed to protect our communities and uphold the rule of law,” Walker said.
Gov. Ron DeSantis was initially set to speak at the news conference, but officials said he couldn’t make it due to some “mechanical issues.”
