JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man was arrested Sunday after admitting to breaching through a security door, grabbing a car without authorization, and driving in a restricted area at the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), according to his arrest report.

On Saturday, an officer with the Jacksonville Aviation Authority was dispatched to a door that had been forced, which had triggered the alarm.

According to the arrest report, surveillance video showed the man forcing the door to the restricted area and entering the ramp. He then entered a JIA-designated ramp vehicle and drove to Concourse C, where aircrafts taxi and park.

The man then parked and exited the vehicle, and then tried to enter several Concourse C gates, officials said.

According to the report, the man was seen at the top of the stairs in the restricted area, trying to enter gate C10. He was then taken into custody.

His arrest report states that the man admitted to entering the restricted area, and once there, he entered the unlocked JIA vehicle without authorization and drove on the ramp.

“The suspect stated he did not know how to fly a plane, but would have learned,” the report says.

He was arrested and transported to jail.

The report also says Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) informed responding officers that the suspect had been displaying “bizarre” behavior in the terminal.

The man is now facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and trespass in operational area of airport — all three are third-degree felonies.
