‘He has a broken femur’: Father speaks out after son’s devastating minibike crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man suffered severe injuries, including a broken femur and facial trauma, when a car hit his electric minibike on Friday at the intersection of Plymouth Street and Cassat Avenue.

Surveillance video from a nearby business captured the moments Quantez Sirmons was riding his minibike home from work when he collided with a car.

“My whole life is shattered standing here,” Harold Sirmons, Quantez’s father, said.

He reported sleepless nights since the crash, deeply concerned about his son’s extensive injuries.

“He has a broken femur, he has the lower part of his leg broken, he has a big laceration where his bone is hanging out of his left leg and his face is split down the middle,” Harold said.

Harold said Quantez recently began speaking again, but said doctors are monitoring his condition closely as he appears to be repeating phrases, prompting the need for brain scans.

Police are still investigating who was at fault in the crash, but Quantez’s sisters said he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time.

It’s part of the reason why the family is asking everyone to be safe while on the road.

“So my word is people be careful driving, lookout for these people crossing these walkways and driving down the road,” Harold said.

That way, no family is stuck wondering if their loved one will ever live the life he once used to like the Sirmons family.
