COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said a woman was found dead in her bed on Sunday evening, marking the second in-custody death reported by the agency in three days.

After aid was applied, the woman died just before 5:30 p.m., deputies said.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, and the woman was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office as part of the investigation.

Due to this being an in-custody death, the investigation is being led by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators, which means that any questions regarding this active investigation will need to be directed to the FDLE.

The incident comes about two days after it was reported that a 64-year-old man was found dead in his cell at the Columbia County jail.
