Working with school officials, they identified the student and contacted the family.

The student was arrested, and authorities say the situation is fully resolved with no ongoing threats to the school. The student’s age was not released.

The student was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and possession of a controlled substance.

FBPD said they will have an increased presence on campus Friday as a precaution.

In a written statement, the Nassau County School District said, “School District officials were made aware Thursday evening of a video posted on social media, that depicted what appeared to be a student showing a handgun to other students in a restroom at Fernandina Beach High School. The Fernandina Beach Police Department sent officers to the student’s residence, where they confiscated the handgun and arrested the student.”

They also shared that the principal of Fernandina Beach High School, Chris Webber, sent the below message out to parents:

“Good morning, Pirate Family, this is your Principal Chris Webber.

I want to take a moment to communicate an important message regarding an incident that occurred at Fernandina Beach High School.

Last night, the Fernandina Beach Police Department received a tip and video showing a student displaying a gun to another student in a school restroom. Working together, law enforcement and school administration quickly identified the student, contacted the family, and the student was subsequently arrested.

The situation has been fully resolved, and there are no threats to our school. However, with safety as our top priority, there will be an increased police presence on campus out of an abundance of caution.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school safe.”
