According to FHP, the 41-year-old man was walking on the right shoulder of State Road 20. At the same time, a white sedan was traveling in the right lane.

Troopers said the pedestrian ran across the road and was hit by the white sedan, despite the driver’s efforts to avoid a collision.

It is unclear why the pedestrian ran across the road.

The man died at the scene.

FHP said the white sedan’s driver, a 30-year-old woman from Green Cove Springs, and her passenger, an 11-year-old boy, were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

The crash blocked the road for hours, but all lanes have since reopened.
