Man accused of using drone to smuggle fentanyl, meth into Ware County Jail

WARE COUNTY, Ga. – A 27-year-old man was accused of using a drone to smuggle fentanyl, meth and other drugs into the Ware County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Ware County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a home on Blalock Avenue on Wednesday, Oct. 15, to investigate reports about illegal activity.

Detectives saw Santonio Knighton come outside to operate the drone, prompting them to make the arrest.

After a search warrant was issued, detectives found about a half a pound of fentanyl, nearly one pound of meth, roughly five pounds of marijuana, thirty pounds of tobacco, 14 cell phones and other items inside the home he was renting.

The man was arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine, felony intentional use of an unmanned aircraft, possession of fentanyl and possession of methamphetamine.

The investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s office also said he could face additional charges.
