JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University dedicated its Public Policy Institute to one of its advisory board’s founding members after a $12 million donation.
Preston Haskell, founder of The Haskell Co., a Jacksonville-based construction company, made the eight-figure donation, showing his continued support for the program.
“I believe in the mission of the Public Policy Institute — to foster civil dialogue and prepare the next generation of public servants,” Haskell said in a news release.
The university also renamed it in his honor. It is now called the Haskell Public Policy Institute.
“At a time when our country needs principled leaders who can bridge divides, this Institute is doing essential work. I’m thankful to everyone who has built this program, and I’m confident these students will make meaningful contributions to Jacksonville and beyond,” Haskell said.
University President Tim Cost called the investment a “milestone moment,” noting that a portion of the multi-million dollar donation would benefit the institution’s programs, events, staff and faculty, according to News4JAX news partner, The Daily Record.
“None of the gift will be used for capital projects,” Cost told TDR.
The university recognized Haskell for his years-long visionary leadership and strategic investments that have shaped civic discourse and public service in Jacksonville.
“The Haskell Public Policy Institute is well-positioned to shape the future of civic leadership and public service in this region, equipping students with the skills, experiences and values needed to lead with purpose in a rapidly evolving world,” Cost said.
Haskell helped found the advisory board for the Public Policy Institute, which was founded in 2012.
