JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Duval County School Board isn’t going anywhere.
At least not for now.

For more than a year, the board and Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier had been discussing the possibility of relocating the School Board headquarters.
The current property is prime real estate on Jacksonville’s Southbank.
But the top bid of $20 million from a nonprofit would have paved the way to replace the School Board building with a retirement community.
A possibility that raised many questions and objections from members of the community.

While the board voted unanimously on Tuesday to reject the proposal to purchase the property, the door is not closed on the headquarters relocating.
In a news release, Bernier said, “We will continue to provide updates through our channels as we explore alternative relocation options.”
