Man arrested in connection with hit-and-run crash that killed 13-year-old girl in Arlington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 13-year-old girl in Arlington.

JSO said Andre Myers, 54, was out on bond for felony charges and wearing an ankle monitor. Investigators were able to track him and found him sleeping inside his truck, where he was arrested.

Myers is charged with leaving the scene of a crash without rendering aid involving a death, the sheriff’s office said.

Early Wednesday morning, before Myers was arrested, he was in court for an aggravated assault charge related to an arrest in the summer.

JSO said he got into a confrontation with another man, where he verbally threatened him, then tried to hit the man with his truck.

In court, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, but the judge ordered the adjudication withheld. Myers received 24 months of probation and was ordered to complete anger management classes within 30 days.

The heartbroken family identified the teen as Genesis Webber. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said she was walking on the sidewalk of Arlington Road near the Mathews Bridge when a vehicle ran over a curb, struck her, and hit a chain-link fence between 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

Myers left the scene without reporting the crash or helping the teenager, JSO said.

Genesis’ mother, Shardae Webber, said her daughter was getting off the activities bus from school.

She said Genesis was someone who was God-fearing, loved to dance and was into sports, and she’ll treasure the small moments they shared forever.

“I just liked being in her presence...she’d come in my room every morning and spray on my perfume or use my hair products so I would just be laying there looking at her doing her hair or doing her edges,” Shardae Webber said.

Those are just the small moments she’ll miss. Genesis also had two siblings whom she loved dearly.

This is the 125th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 29th involving a pedestrian.
