JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of a 13-year-old is heartbroken after she was killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday night in Arlington.
Family identified the teen as Genesis Webber. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said she was walking on Arlington Road near the Mathews Bridge when a vehicle ran over a curb, struck her, and hit a fence.
The driver left the scene without reporting the crash or helping the teenager, JSO said.
They also said they believe the crash happened between 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
Genesis’ mother, Shardae Webber, said her daughter was getting off the activities bus from school.
She said Genesis was someone who was God-fearing, loved to dance and was into sports, and she’ll treasure the small moments they shared forever.
“I just liked being in her presence...she’d come in my room every morning and spray on my perfume or use my hair products so I would just be laying there looking at her doing her hair or doing her edges,” Shardae Webber said.
Those are just the small moments she’ll miss. Genesis also had two siblings whom she loved dearly.
Homicide detectives are working to obtain video surveillance. So far, no description of the vehicle involved in the crash has been released.
This is the 125th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 29th involving a pedestrian.
JSO is asking anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 904-630-0500 or call CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
