JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said an 18-year-old is facing a murder charge that stems from a Westside shooting that took place in May, which left a 39-year-old man dead.

According to police, on May 15, Andre Thomas was attempting to break into several cars on Donte Swan’s property, located on Wheat Road near Ricker Road.

Through their investigation, police said they learned that Thomas and the group had previously stolen a different car, drove to the area where Swan’s home was located “for murder,” and began attempting to steal other vehicles, which led to the deadly confrontation with Swan.

Thomas, who was already in custody on an unrelated charge, was a juvenile when the shooting occurred, but is now 18. JSO said the State Attorney’s Office will be trying him as an adult.

"Even with the gunman behind bars, our investigation doesn’t end. We’re still investigating and working to hold everyone involved in this case responsible for their actions," police said.
