From 1920s bank to elegant venue: Why couples are choosing St. Augustine’s Treasury on the Plaza to tie the knot

The Treasury on the Plaza is now one of the city’s most popular wedding venues

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – With its cobblestone streets, centuries-old architecture, and coastal views, St. Augustine has become one of the most popular wedding destinations in the country.

Couples from across the United States are flocking to the nation’s oldest city to tie the knot, drawn by its romantic backdrops and rich history.

One of the city’s most sought-after venues is the Treasury on the Plaza, located in the heart of downtown. Originally built in 1926 as the First National Bank, the building has been transformed into an elegant event space that blends historic charm with modern amenities.

“The historic charm of the Treasury and its location really make it special for our couples,” said Brandy Boulette, director of operations at The Treasury Venue Collection. “They get a full wedding experience when they come to St. Augustine.”

Boulette said the venue’s original bank vault from the 1920s remains a centerpiece for wedding ceremonies and photo ops. Historic photos still hang on the walls, offering a glimpse into the building’s past.

The idea to repurpose the space came in 2014, when John Arbizzani and Brenda Bushell envisioned a venue that could serve both the community and couples looking for a unique wedding experience.

“We’re right next to the church, and we host events for the community and weddings,” Boulette said. “They saw the potential in the layout and wanted to preserve its beauty.”

The venue is now owned by John Glover, president of The Treasury Venue Collection.

From its architectural details to its deep-rooted history, the Treasury on the Plaza is one of many reasons why St. Augustine continues to be a place where love stories begin.
