St. Johns County leaders are holding a town hall Monday night at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library as e-bikes become more popular and concerns about safety continue to grow.

Both the sheriff and a county commissioner are expected to be there to answer questions and share what’s being done to keep riders — and everyone on the road — safe.

The public will have a chance to speak with them directly, ask questions and share concerns, especially when it comes to keeping children and other riders safe on the roads.

Concern has been growing for months now, especially with the number of crashes reported in St. Johns County.

Less than a month ago, a 66-year-old St. Augustine man died on US 1 after his electronic bicycle crashed head-on with an SUV.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reported 20 cases in just the first five months of 2025, compared to only eight incidents throughout all of 2024.

This latest town hall, which runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m., comes as St. Johns County leaders take steps to improve safety for young e-bike riders, starting in the classroom.

The school district is rolling out a new e-bike safety curriculum across 17 middle schools.

School resource officers will lead the lessons, teaching students the rules of the road and how to ride safely.

The program is expected to launch before the end of the year.

In April, a middle school boy was critically injured while riding an electric bike in Julington Creek.

That incident prompted county leaders to unanimously pass a resolution supporting stronger education and enforcement policies for e-bike, e-scooter, and other similar devices.

Doors for the town hall open at 6 p.m.
