JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two Carnival Cruise passengers died hours apart on Friday at the cruise line’s newest private resort, according to police.
According to ClickOrlando.com, The Royal Bahamas Police Force said a 79-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman were found unresponsive at Celebration Key.

Before noon on Friday, police said the man became unresponsive while snorkeling at the beach. A lifeguard pulled him from the water and administered CPR, but the man was later pronounced dead.
About two hours later, the woman became unresponsive while swimming in a pool and she was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed on both passengers to determine the cause of their deaths.
The $600 million facility on Grand Bahama Island opened last month. It can accommodate two ships at a time and one of them on Friday was the Mardi Gras that sailed from Port Canaveral. The other was the Carnival Elation, according to the cruise line, which sails from Jacksonville. Both victims had been traveling with their families, according to Carnival.
Carnival Cruise Line issued a statement over the weekend saying in part, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and their families and our care team is providing assistance.”
An investigation is ongoing.
