Hundreds of flags have been placed all around Memorial Park in Riverside.

In fact, 480 of them. But if you look at each flag, you’re going to see a name, honoring someone. But the thing is, it’s not just veterans, the names include first responders, teachers and other who are described as heroes.

It’s the second year for the annual Flags for Heroes Project.

Last year, it started with 224 flags. Now it’s almost doubled.

Honoring Active and non-active military members, plus first responders, mentors, coaches, and family friends who made an impact.

The flags will be up throughout the weekend, all the way until Monday night.

From 6-8 pm on Memorial Day, the public is welcome to attend a night of entertainment with food vendors and live music from the Bay Kings band.

Memorial Park was established in 1924 to honor Florida’s World War I dead.

Last year was the first go-around for Bob Kidd and the Riverside Rotary Club, which now uses local volunteers to help out.

And the message to those who pay a visit...is simple, yet profound.

And with the amount of flags doubling from last year to this year, organizers are saying they want to keep this up because they’ve received such good feedback.
