In February 2020, Ahmaud Arbery was killed by three white men while jogging through a neighborhood in Brunswick.
His death, along with other Black Americans in recent years, inspired Sidney Bryant to create “Redwood.”
The movie tells the story of Ahmaud’s death and trial but with a depiction that Marcus Arbery and his manager, Daren Gale, called “appalling.”
Gale told the Savannah Morning News that Bryant sent a link of the movie to them, and they weren’t happy with it because it doesn’t portray his son in a good light.
According to the film’s website, instead of Black 25-year-old Ahmaud being chased, it’s a 17-year-old white kid who is “hunted down and killed for jogging in the wrong neighborhood.”

Bryant said he tried to contact the family but was unable to reach them. Gale rebuffed that, saying he and the family are not hard to reach.
Gale said he and Marcus are creating their own movie about the events.
