Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. March 23 to the Sands Hotel — located at 2401 Beach Court in Riviera Beach — in reference to a child not breathing, police said.

Arriving officers met with a man who identified himself as the babysitter, going on to say he saw the boy grab a bottle of apple juice from a nearby table and drink it.

According to the report, the man told police that the boy “immediately said it tasted weird and (spat) it out.”

The boy then started to shake and shiver and was cold to the touch with rashes forming, the babysitter said, adding he thought it was an allergic reaction.

The man told police that he began to perform CPR when he noticed the boy became stiff and his head was tilted down.

Police also said that about an hour before the emergency call was made, Opsincs was outside of her building washing a cooler when she was told that her son drank the apple juice and the boy was vomiting “black stuff.”

According to Riviera Beach police, the boy died at the hospital not long after ingesting the substance.

Officers said that despite Opsincs telling them that she did not use drugs, she failed two field tests for meth.

According to the report, the small room where she was staying was unkempt and “rather deplorable.” Police also found several glass pipes that tested positive for meth.

Opsincs was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail where she faces a charge of aggravated manslaughter, police said.
