JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials held a news conference Friday morning at the Jacksonville International Airport to discuss prohibited items and share tips ahead of spring break travel.
Spring break begins this week and continues through April 21, and TSA officials anticipate a steadily increasing number of passengers at airport checkpoints throughout the next month.
Officials also expect the number of passengers to surpass last year’s record-breaking spring break period.

On average, TSA said between 9,000 and 10,000 people pass through the Jacksonville International Airport daily.
During the spring break period, they expect that number to increase to around 14,000 people daily.

A blender, knives, golf clubs, and other sharp objects were among the prohibited items showcased on Friday.
“The biggest thing is, ‘Oh I forgot it was in my bag or I didn’t know,’” a TSA supervisor said.
Guy DeVito, said he can’t fault people who’ve tried to bring prohibited items in a carry-on suitcase on a plane, because he’s done the same.
“I’ve lost many a leatherman,” DeVito said. “It’s a multitool with scissors a knife files for your nails, pliers.”
However, he’s learned his lesson and always checks what he has with him before he flies.
Mark Howell, a TSA spokesperson, said packing prohibited items in a carry-on bag will slow down the screening process.
“Number one, please pay attention to what you have with you in your bag number, two give yourself plenty of time to get through the process,” Howell said.
He also said if anyone is worried about what they can bring with them, they can check the TSA website.
