ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 77-year-old St. Johns County man just won a $1 million prize from playing the 500X The Cash Scratch-Off game, the Florida Lottery announced Tuesday.
According to a release, the man purchased his winning ticket from Publix located at 670 Marsh Landing Parkway in Jacksonville Beach. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.

The retailer also received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket.

The $50 scratch-off features a top prize of $25 million—the largest ever offered on a Florida scratch-off game, the release said. The overall odds of winning are 1 in 4.23.
“Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery’s portfolio of games, comprising approximately 74 percent of ticket sales in fiscal year 2023-2024,” the Florida Lottery said. “Additionally, since inception, Scratch-Off games have awarded more than $64.3 billion in prizes, created 2,230 millionaires, and generated more than $19.50 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).”
