JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It has been 12 years since Jordan Davis, a 17-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, was killed over an argument about loud music.

On Nov. 23, 2012, Michael Dunn confronted Davis and his friends about the music playing in their car. The encounter ended with Dunn fatally shooting Davis.
After a second trial, Dunn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Davis’ father, Ron Davis, has spent the past decade keeping his son’s memory alive. Each year, he visits the site of Jordan’s death, where a plaque honors his life. This year, Ron laid flowers there, reflecting on how Jordan’s death has inspired change.
“When it happened, does it still feel like yesterday for you? Or how has time helped—or not helped—since his passing?” Ron Davis was asked during an interview.
“It has helped,” he replied. “It doesn’t feel like yesterday. I’ve seen so much and done so much since the death of my son. I guess because you see the progress of the foundation, ‘Walk with Jordan.’ So many families I’ve been able to help, sending some kids to college and feeding families in poverty-stricken situations. I see that light my son still shines, and that’s what I enjoy—when people light up because you say his name or see his picture. Then you know he’s still around.”
