Georgia couple accused of murder deprived daughter of food, medical care for nearly a month at Ft. Stewart: indictment

GEORGIA – New details have emerged about a husband and wife who are accused of starving their daughter to death while based at Fort Stewart Military Reservation.

According to the indictment, Brandon M. Kelley, 29, and Stacey D. Kelley, 26, deprived their daughter of food and medical care for a month, resulting in her death. The couple is facing multiple murder charges, including felony murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

The indictment alleges the couple starved their daughter, Vyolet Kelley, and failed to provide her with critical medical care during a period of prolonged neglect. The abuse is said to have occurred between October 2024 and November 2024, while the family was living at Fort Stewart Military Reservation, where Brandon Kelley was serving as an enlisted soldier.

“The allegations in this case are heartbreaking on many levels. Our office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to pursue justice,” said Acting United States Attorney Tara M. Lyons in a statement.

Charges filed against the Kelleys:

  • Count One: Felony Murder – Child Abuse
  • Count Two: Murder in the Second Degree
  • Count Three: Murder in the Second Degree

If convicted on the felony murder charge, the Kelleys could face the death penalty.

The case is being investigated by the United States Army Criminal Investigative Division and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Timothy P. Dean and E. Greg Gilluly, Jr.

As of Tuesday morning, Brandon and Stacey Kelley are being held at the Liberty County Jail in Georgia on a hold for the U.S. Marshals Service.

Brandon Kelley is expected to appear in court on Wednesday. Stacey Kelley appeared in court on Monday and is expected to have a detention hearing next week.
